How does historical conceptions about slavery relate to current debates on contemporary slavery? RESISTANCE's researcher Mariana Dias Paes (MPIeR) analyzed criminal lawsuits sued before the Brazilian Tribunais Regionais Federais to analyze how judges’ conceptions on colonial and nineteenth-century slavery determined their framing of the legal concept of “contemporary slave labor”. In this video, she explains the conclusions of her research on this topic. The video is part of the YouTube channel sponsored by the Clínica de Trabalho Escravo e Tráfico de Pessoas from the Law School of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. The channel publicizes videos that aim to bring to broader public debates academic and legal issues concerning contemporary slavery and human trafficking.
